startGNV Hires Hip New Director, Tammy Dygert, and Strengthens Leadership Team to Highlight Local Startups

Gainesville, FL – November 17, 2021

The startGNV Board of Directors is thrilled to announce the appointment of Tammy Dygert as the organization’s new full-time Director. Dygert succeeds Lauren Asmus in this role.

“We welcome Tammy to the team. Her history in this community and nonprofit background make her an ideal candidate. We’re thrilled to see the culmination of her creative and organizational skills propel startGNV to new heights,” says James Gibson, startGNV Board President and Co-Founder of Quottly.

A native of Maryland, Tammy Dygert grew up with DC and Baltimore serving as her cultural playground. The arts were a major focus of her interest and study, later followed by technology.  She came to Gainesville in 1995 for an internship at the Hippodrome Theatre which launched a long career in the areas of community programming and arts management, bringing her in touch with national and international agents and artists through contract negotiations and artistic collaboration.

Dygert brings 20 years of management experience with small and large nonprofits from a variety of roles ranging from arts programming, corporate engagement, event fundraising, and board development. Dygert most recently served as Executive Director of the Central Florida Territory of March of Dimes. As a continual learner, Dygert is also earning a Masters of Education in Educational Technology at the University of Florida. She is passionate about community engagement and solution-driven innovation.

“I love being at the intersection of creativity and community. Gainesville possesses both of these attributes in spades. I feel very fortunate to live in such an innovative ecosystem and look forward to stewarding its growth with an amazingly talented board and vibrant community,” says Dygert.

startGNV is a non-profit dedicated to growing the innovation ecosystem of Greater Gainesville. For the first two years, the volunteer-run organization was almost exclusively facilitated by a working board. Lauren Asmus became the first full time director and for the last year she helped elevate the brand, highlighting what makes startGNV special: high level leadership and talent combined with creative disruption. She built dozens of community relationships to forward the innovation scene.

The new chapter will build on these efforts with a continued focus on talent recruitment and support. The organization will partner with local advocates and businesses and continue to highlight why greater Gainesville is a great place to launch a startup, grow creative solutions, live a balanced life and meet some of the brightest and best people.
