PS27 Ventures Rhea Fund Invests in RYZE Superfoods Company
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., August 3, 2021 – PS27 Ventures, a Jacksonville-based venture capital firm, announces their investment in RYZE Superfoods, a rapidly growing e-commerce company that sells mushroom coffee which delivers significant health benefits without the side effects of caffeine found in a regular cup of coffee. The coffee industry is a $134 billion industry, and it is projected to experience significant growth worldwide in the coming years according to Businesswire. Nearly 80% of coffee drinkers report major side effects of drinking coffee and seek alternatives, leading mushroom-based coffees to be the fastest-growing subsegment of the coffee industry according to the US National Institute of Health. Ryze ensures their mushroom coffee and other upcoming products are sourced safely, sustainably, and have the highest quality ingredients. With the shift in consumer interest in healthy eating and the growing awareness of the overwhelming benefits of mushrooms, Ryze has quickly become one of the fastest-growing brands in the US with tens of thousands of loyal fans and 5-star reviews.
Founders Rashad Hossain and Andree Werner met while studying at Harvard University in 2016. The inspiration for RYZE sparked when they were experiencing high stress as undergrads. The young professionals recount feeling tired and felt the effects of "crashing" after drinking regular coffee. So they began researching the benefits of medicinal mushrooms and experimenting with mixing flavors in their coffee by infusing arabica coffee beans with six types of organic medicinal mushrooms and MCT oil. As a result, they found a coffee blend that improves overall focus, physical performance, and immunity while fighting inflammation and promoting homeostasis.
“With PS27’s investment and support, we will be able to continue to bring an entire range of superfood products to market, as well as explore new areas for product expansion and help our customers continue to live a healthy lifestyle. We are thrilled to have PS27 backing us as we chart our next chapter,” said Rashad Hossain, CEO of RYZE Superfoods.
This investment will be the second from PS27’s $20 million dollar Rhea Fund announced earlier this year. PS27’s new fund focuses on identifying and funding women founders and people of color and will invest in over 20 companies over the next five years.
