As startGNV continues to grow and evolve, we are excited to announce that we are seeking our next full-time Director to bring the organization into its next chapter of community impact.
startGNV History: startGNV, originally the Gainesville Area Innovation Network, has a long-running history as the go-to networking hub for GNV tech and startup talent. In the past three years, this exciting organization has evolved from a volunteer effort to a robust, high-impact, and high-efficiency organization dedicated to growing the innovation ecosystem of Greater Gainesville. Our working board has led the charge in partnership with two brilliant directors named Lauren (Hemingway and Asmus), a working board composed of Gainesville’s top-talent, and an army of amazing volunteers and community supporters.

Who We Are
startGNV is a 501c3 non-profit with a mission to connect, grow and elevate Gainesville’s tech, startup and innovation community. Through a core portfolio of events and networking opportunities, startGNV drives collaboration, information and support among local professionals and entrepreneurs. startGNV’s platform is quickly becoming a valued source for information on the Gainesville tech and startup community.
What We are Looking for
We are seeking an organized and entrepreneurial individual passionate about Gainesville, to lead startGNV to the next level.
As both a non-profit organization and a startup, we are seeking a self-starter who is comfortable working in constantly changing environments, adding structure to ambiguity and taking ownership of final outcomes.
The ideal candidate will have the project management skills needed to get new ideas off the ground, combined with flexibility, problem solving skills and scrappiness to pivot when challenges pop up. As our full-time Director, you will not only keep the day-to-day trains running for the organization, but also collaborate regularly with community leaders to help grow startGNV into the central hub for information on Gainesville startup news, information and events.
Note: We know that even the best candidates won’t have all of these experiences/abilities. We expect the top candidate to have a mix of these skills combined with the ability to partner/collaborate with others in the areas outside of their expertise.
--Strong organizational and project management skills
--Demonstrated interest in technology, startups, entrepreneurship, and Greater Gainesville economic development
--Experience in a dynamic start-up environment is preferred, but not required
--Highly collaborative- genuine interest in connecting others
--Previous marketing, brand management or communications experience are a plus
Through collaboration with and project management of board members, volunteers, external service providers and/or student interns, you will be responsible for the following:
Capture the Vision:
--Work with board and community leadership to collectively and cohesively research and capture diverse ideas and information on how to grow the innovation ecosystem of Greater Gainesville.
--Position startGNV as a leading startup resource, talent development strategist, community connector, and economic development leader (at the local and state level) by shaping startGNV products and programming, board initiatives, and community relations.
Board Administration and Guidance
--Report weekly to the startGNV Board
--Manage monthly board meetings including scheduling, setting meeting objectives, facilitation and follow up
--Lead and assist with board and committee structure, bylaws updates, and annual not for profit reporting requirements
--Facilitating short and long-term strategic planning and program evaluation
--Maintain a master calendar of events, marketing, etc.
--Have a high-level understanding of all the pieces in motion and document best practices and organizational procedures to ensure organizational longevity
--Manage startGNV budget and finance including bookkeeping, preparing of financial statements, payment of vendors, etc.
--Create and nurture a strong network of volunteers, startup and technology leaders, sponsors and corporate partners
--Represent startGNV in the local community and facilitate startGNV community engagement
--Ensure planning and execution of startGNV’s core portfolio of events and programming (BarCamp, Startup Weekend, CelebrateGNV, Onward and Upward Concert).
--Serve as a facilitator for startGNV’s Tech Talent Initiative keeping a pulse on local employer hiring needs.
--Oversee vendors and volunteers to ensure real-time updates of the startGNV jobs portal and sponsored jobs promotion
Fundraising and Sponsor Relations
--Lead and manage new fundraising initiatives such as sponsorships, recruiting partnerships, and individual giving/membership campaigns. We are also looking to expand into pursuing grants over the next few years.
--Manage existing sponsor relationships, ensure the timely delivery and reporting on sponsor package deliverables, and increase sponsor recognition and retention with an ‘above and beyond’ attitude.
Marketing and Communications
--Grow startGNV’s brand by maintaining our twice-monthly newsletter and oversee our active presence on social
--Drive community engagement, participation and event promotion through direct marketing strategies
--In partnership with interns, board members and volunteers, help manage startGNV’s website including the company directory and job portal
--In partnership with vendors, board members and volunteers, assist with the implementation of a startGNV talent acquisition marketing campaign
