Get to Know VOS Systems

Gainesville is home to some amazing products and companies, and recently we had an opportunity to learn about AlertTrace by VOS Systems.

Tell us about your company:

VOS Systems creates innovative IoT solutions to apply to a multitude of work and organization-based issues.  We are on a mission to improve workplace health, safety, and productivity using cutting edge end-to-end IoT-enabled solutions, which are designed, developed, and supported from the United States to the rest of the world.

Tell us about AlertTrace, your awesome product:

AlertTrace was born out of the pandemic.  Our engineers looked at the problem of contact tracing and invented a device that could accurately record and measure contacts and give proximity alerts to help people socially distance.  For companies using AlertTrace, contact tracing went from days to minutes so they could quickly quarantine only employees exposed to COVID instead of their entire operation.  In a recent survey, we were surprised by what a big psychological boost it was for employees to have AlertTrace.  To the point that several companies are going to use it after the pandemic is over to help contact trace flu and other infectious diseases.

As the pandemic shifts and CDC guidance around Covid changes, any plans to pivot the product?

We are marketing it now for other infectious diseases and reopening responsibly.  Also, we are adding an emergency management feature.

What's next?

CoRe is our newest product and it enables the real-time flow of data from people, equipment, tools and assets into an IoT-enabled analytics platform.  An example of this would be a construction site.  We would create a geofence around the area that needs to be monitored and we would track the position of any asset within the geofence.  Equipment (both large and small) would have our device installed and we could then tell where it is on the property, be alerted if it leaves the property, and we can also tell how long a piece of equipment has been used for maintenance purposes.  Construction employees would wear our PSDs (personal safety devices) that can tell if someone has fallen or has an impact injury and will send out an alert.   It also does contact tracing in case of disease outbreak.  The CoRe System reinvents how the job site is run to optimize safety and accountability.

Tell us about your company culture.

The culture is great at VOS Systems.  It’s a very supportive environment. One of the fun things about working here is that we are dog friendly.  If you walk into our office you will be welcomed by Magnus – a very big and very loveable chocolate lab. Our Marketing Director brings in her elder dog, Phobos, a Pomeranian/ chihuahua mix.  My Jack-Russel, Gypsy, had major surgery this year and literally recovered at the office.  She now runs around the office like she owns the place.

Favorite place in GNV for a company lunch?

Every Friday, we bring in lunch for the team from various local restaurants.  We actually have a list of favorites that we rotate each week.  If I had to pick one, Flaco’s is a favorite because the food is great and it’s a block from our office.  You’ll see many a team member going sprinting over in the early afternoon before they close for a homemade Mexican cruller and an espresso, too!

How can people help grow innovation and collaboration in GNV?

Mostly by keeping in touch with each other.  There is so much talent in Gainesville and more often than not, I’ve found all the talent I need right here.
